Project Concept

The redesigned Kütahya Valiliği building reinterprets the historical legacy of the Phrygian Valley through a contemporary lens. The design creates a powerful architectural synthesis that honors Kütahya’s rich multi-layered history while meeting the functional demands of a modern provincial governor’s office.

Inspired primarily by Vedat Tek’s monumental yet elegant national architecture, the project incorporates ancient Phrygian geometric patterns, lion motifs, and rock-cut monumentality together with subtle Byzantine brick-stone rhythms and rhythmic arched compositions. The result is a dignified, contemporary public building that expresses both deep historical roots and forward-looking civic identity.

Design Highlights

• Façade & Materials: Warm beige ashlar stone combined with terracotta brick banding and rich Kütahya ceramic tiles in turquoise, deep blue, and ochre tones.

• Architectural Elements: Monumental pointed arches, wide overhanging eaves with decorative brackets, Phrygian-inspired geometric reliefs, and stylized lion sculptures symbolizing strength and protection.

• Entrance Portal: A grand stone portal featuring carved Phrygian meanders, lion reliefs, and a richly tiled lunette above the main doors.

• Massing: Symmetrical and powerful composition with corner pavilions, rhythmic window arrangements, and a strong skyline that respects the existing urban context.

• Sustainability: Energy-efficient systems, natural ventilation principles, and integration of green areas in the surrounding public plaza.
